Skyfire Productions V8 Fullsize Rules Work done to frame or body not specifically outlined in these rules will result in a car being loaded automatically. Painting or undercoating of frames will result in a car being automatically loaded. There are no gray areas final call on a car passing tech is at our officials’ discretion. You will not win an argument with our officials on a rule or ruling, so follow the rules.
- No limosines, hearses, or ambulances. Open to all other fullsize V8 production automobiles.
- No plating of frame outside of what is specified within these rules (See below) No loading of frames, extra plating or loading of frames will result in an automatic disqualification of car.
- Fresh cars will be allowed 4 total fix plates, Pre-ran cars will be allowed 8 total fix plates anywhere on outside of frame. Plates may be 4”x4” ¼” thick maximum. All plates must start 1” apart and max of ½” bead of weld around plate. Plate must be painted bright color for identification. Plates must remain intact as one 4”x”4 plate but may be manipulated by heating, bending and contouring to frame.
- All cars fresh or pre-ran will be allowed 10 sperate locations of #9 wire. This is not including wire used to secure hood.
- 03 and newer. All cars 03 and newer must retain factory aluminum engine cradle as well as factory rack and pinion steering assembly. You may use a direct bolt in only piece for engine mounting, it must bolt on top of factory aluminum cradle and may not be welded to frame in any manner.
- You may run aftermarket pedal, shifters, trans coolers and battery box however none of these components may be used to strengthen car. If bolted through floor all bolts, nuts and washers must remain 1” away from frame and transmission crossmember in all directions. Each bolt must have its own individual washer no larger than 3”x3” ¼” thick.
- Any engine and transmission permitted. Engine may have ½” max Lower cradle with front plate and pulley protector along with ½” max distributor protector along with halo around carburetor for carb protection, however no full engine cradles will be permitted. Transmission may have steel bell housing steel tail shaft and transmission brace. Distributor protector must have a 1” gap from firewall and sheet metal during inspection.
- Solid engine mounts permitted. Mounts may not exceed 8”x8” ¼” thick and may not be tied into the frame in any way. Must remain on engine cradle these are for mounting purposes only.
- Transmission crossmember may be a max of 2”x2” ¼” thick tubing connected to the frame by 4”x4” ¼” thick 6” long angle. The crossmember may not be through the frame.
- Slider driveshafts are permitted.
- Any 5 or 8 lug rear end may be used. Any rear end bracing must be a minimum of 1” away from frame, body or package tray. Rear end bracing may not strengthen car in any way. Axle savers and pinion brakes are permitted.
- Any wheel and tire permitted must be round and rubber. Weld in centers are permitted. Rim bead stiffeners are permitted. No bead locks or external rubber on the outside of tires.
- Both front and back bumpers may be any OEM bumper and may be loaded and seam welded. Bumpers may also be homemade but must meet the following specifications, 8”x8” ¼” thick max, may have a point of no more than 4” from flat of bumper and point must be tapered over a 32” span. No pointy bumpers that exceed these measurements will be allowed. Absolutely no sharp edges on any bumper they must be capped at the ends. Two options for bumper mounting. Option 1 you may use a 4”x12” 3/8” thick plate on outside of frame mounted either top, side or bottom of frame rail to the bumper. This will be measured straight back from bumper down frame. The plate may not exceed any father back than the 12” at any point. Option 2 you may use any factory OEM bumper shock however you lose the 4”x12” plate. Shock may be collapsed and welded. Shock may be welded to the outside of frame but no weld may exceed father back than 12” from rear flat of bumper back. Bumpers must be no lower than 14” at any point and must not be and higher than 22” at any point. Bumper height measurement will be taken from bottom of bumper.
- Cars may have solid suspension. Rear suspension and front shock may be max 1” all thread. A max of 4 nuts with washers not exceeding 3”x3” ¼” thick. The bottom of the front A Arm washer may be 6”x6” ¼” thick due to the larger opening in the lower A Arm. No leaf spring conversions and no aftermarket coil springs allowed. Factory leaf sprung cars max of 5/16” 2” stair step and stagger, 4 clamps max per leaf pack. Clamps max 2” ¼” thick and bolted with max 3/8” bolts. Upper A Arms may be contoured to frame and may be welded with a max 4”x4” ¼” thick plate 1 per side 2 plates per a arm. Spindles and A Arms must be factory OEM but may be swapped from OEM to OEM. Ball joints may be swapped but must be a factory working ball joint.
- Sway bars may be bolted to lower control arms and must utilize the factory frame brackets no welding of sway bar in any manner.
- . Rear end watts link kits are permitted. Upper brackets must not exceed 8”x8” and be bolted with a max of 4 ½” bolts. Lower brackets may be welded to frame but must not exceed 3”x3” 3/8” thick and 6” long. Upper and lower trailing arms may be factory reinforced and shorten or lengthen to set desired pinion angle, or trailing arms may be replaced with 2”x2” ¼” thick max tubing. All trailing arms must be bolted not welded they must be operational and pivot.
- Steering boxes must be mounted at factory location however may be swapped from OEM to OEM. 03 and newer must retain the factory rack and pinion steering. Tie rods may be reinforced. Aftermarket tie rods are permitted and may be factory tie rod or heim joint but bolt must not exceed 1” diameter by 3” long.
- Seam welding permitted top seam only from firewall forward ½” bead of weld with no added material. Tilting permitted however all cars may be only tilted in one spot and all welds must not exceed ½” bead. Y Frame cars may close the Y and use a single pass ½” bead no longer than 12” to secure the Y closed. You may shorten the front frame section a minimum of 20” must remain from the front of the factory coil pocket to the back of the front bumper. 03 and newer with no coil pocket the measurement will be taken from the forward most cradle mount bushing to back of bumper 20” must remain.
- Coil sprung cars may have a 22”x6” 3/8” thick hump plate centered in the hump. Leaf sprung cars the hump plate may be 11”x6” 3/8” thick. Metric GMs the hump plate may be 30”x6” 3/8” thick. All hump plate must be located on the outside of frame facing the wheel.
- All body mounts may be changed to 5/8” bolts not exceeding 6” long, washers must not exceed 3”x3” ¼” thick. A 1” minimum space must remain between body and frame can be factory body bushing, hockey pucks or stacked washers may be used but nothing may be welded to frame over body bolt locations. Front core support spacer may use 1” all thread through the hood along with a max of 12” long 3”x3” ¼” thick tube may be used for a spacer but must be to bottom of core support only and core support mount location.
- Drivers door may be welded solid for protection you may run a door skin on driver door as well max ¼” thick not over lapping door seams by more than 2”. All other doors and truck may be welded with 5”x5” ¼” thick plate in a manor of 5” on 5” off outside seams only. Trunk may be dished or canoed, however a 2” space must remain from trunk floor to trunk lid. Two 10” holes must be cut into trunk lid for inspection. Hood may be secured in 6 spots. Can be chained, wired or bolted if bolted must be 2”x2” angle 6” long with a max of 5/8” bolts 2 per angle. Front core support 1” all thread may be used as to of your hood securement locations. Hoods must have a minimum of two 12” holes.
- All fender and body lines may be creased both horizontal and vertical, however rear fenders must remain completely upright in factory location.
- A full cage is HIGHLY Recommended. At minimum you must have driver door protection and a bar from B pillar to B pillar with max of 8”x8” ¼” thick plate at ends welded to B pillar. Cage must meet the following dimensions max. 4-point interior floating cage, Side bars may be 6” max and may run no farther forward than the firewall and no farther back then the rear seat kick panel. Side bars must remain 5” away from rocker panel and may not be tied into body mounts. Dash bar must be a minimum of 5” away from firewall and transmission tunnel. Rear Seat bar may be no farther back than the rear seat kick panel and must remain 5” from the driveshaft tunnel. Fuel tank protector may butt up to package tray but may be no wider than 32” and must be centered in the car, two ½” bolts may go through tank to protector and package tray. Halo must run straight up and attach to seat bar or side bars no farther back than the rear seat kick panel. Halo may be bolted to roof in a max of 2 spots with ½” bolts. Two down bars 1 per side may run from side bar to top of frame only, they must remain straight up and down not angled and may not be within 1” of any body mount bolt. Down bars may be no farther forward of the internal door seam and no farther back then the B pillar. Cages may be gusseted at all corners. A rear window bar is permitted however must not exceed 2”x2” ¼” square and may only attach from the halo to the upper most trunk seam this window bar may not tie into the fuel tank protector in any fashion. A front window bar is recommended but may not strengthen the car in any way, If front window bar runs to halo it must attach to front dash bar but must remain 5” from firewall.
- No plastic fuel tanks, no stock tanks. Fuel tank must be leak free and well secured. Fuel tank must be covered with thick rubber or sheet metal for fire protection.
